Get Up To Speed

Road cycling is intimidating. The cars, the hills, the wind... the Spandex.

But the joy of cycling is the same as when you were five and felt you could fly. The freedom of the open road, the blood-pumping climbs, the eye-watering descents. When you're riding, you're alive.

GUTS Cycling leads you on customized training rides in the Bay Area. We make cyclists out of bicyclists, climbers out of commuters, and hammerers out of huffers. We'll get you from Market St. to Mt. Tam with good humor and gratis espresso.

GUTS Cycling - get up to speed.

**COVID Update - GUTS Cycling continues to offer coaching sessions during the pandemic - we need bikes more than ever right now. Social distancing and mask-wearing best practices will be observed.

Jackie B. (San Francisco): "Training for my first event with Aaron was such a pleasure. I learned so much about how to ascend/descend properly, the importance of cadence, and a simple-to-follow weekly riding schedule. Not only does he provide actionable and practical tips to ensure you have a strong and safe ride, but he's also super fun to ride with!"

Erik P. (Oakland): I engaged Aaron for a 90-minute coaching session. As an enthusiastic but inexperienced rider, I was able to draw from Aaron’s astonishing breadth of knowledge: climbing technique, pedal cadence, paceline, cornering, and most importantly, an incredible range of tips that make me a safer rider. His vast knowledge is outstripped only by his earnest passion to ride and to teach. A+”

Curated Training Rides

GUTS Cycling leads you on customized training rides on the best roads in the Bay Area, building your skills and increasing your confidence as a road cyclist.

Rides range from 1 to 5+ hours and are tailored to your ability and cycling goals.

We're with you every pedal stroke of the way (unlike other cycling coaches), guiding you on pacing, posture, cadence, breathing, and nutrition. And we're flexible. If you're not feeling energetic one day, we'll work on form and technique. If you're chomping at the bit, we'll hammer up climbs and push hard through the descents.

With GUTS Cycling you'll discover:

  • climbing, descending, and braking techniques

  • nutrition and hydration guidance

  • training schedules

  • the most scenic roads

  • the toughest climbs

  • the silkiest descents

  • pacelining and group riding etiquette

  • how to stay safe and happy on your bike

Plus answers to everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask, such as: how to fix a flat; where to pee; to Strava or not to Strava; and how to avoid the dreaded “bonk.”

Group rides - Make it social! GUTS leads training rides and clinics for groups of up to 4 people.

Corporate events - Bring your work team! GUTS leads group clinics as corporate events that build trust and camaraderie among colleagues.

Our Speed

Aaron bought a road bike in 2009 and had no idea what he was doing. The only thing he knew was that he’d never wear Spandex. Fast forward a decade and Aaron’s riding 150-mile gran fondos with pros... yes, in Spandex.

Aaron is a cycling coach with a knack for sharing his infectious love of the road with fellow riders. It took him years to learn the ins and out of the sport, the best routes in the region, and how to ride safely and confidently in all conditions, but there's no reason it should take you so long. Aaron draws on his years of experience on the Bay Area’s roads and deep connections to the local cycling community to get you up to speed quickly.

Bay Area road cycling is Aaron’s passion. He can’t wait to share it with you.
